Evangelism that isn’t threatening!?!

Last Tuesday evening the Chaplain from the local State School told us about her work.  She is employed by Scripture Union and has been working at the school for some years now.  Moira made an interesting comment that she is not allowed to initiate conversations about God – the requirement is that she doesn’t preach or proselytise.  She added that this wasn’t a problem for her since she evangelises through who she and by what she does.  That made me do some thinking.

Many folk feel very uncomfortable whenever the subject of evangelism and witnessing comes up.  There’s no easier way to lay a guilt trip on

The Challenge Of Being Understood

Words are wonderful things. They allow us to communicate thoughts and ideas with a precision and detail that would be difficult or impossible with only pictures or simple gestures. Imagine, for example, trying to explain the gospel using only pictures!

Although we can have greater precision or detail in using words, there is still the potential for ambiguity. We can take it for granted, but our use of words relies – among other things – on the speaker and the hearer attaching the same meaning to the words that are used.

Take, for example, speaking with non-Christians about faith.
